All About Lemon Bush Eucalyptus

Growing Eucalyptus Lemon Bush (Corymbia citriodora), from seeds is a great way to add ready amounts of filler foliage to your garden that can be harvested from again and again for your cut flower bouquets and arrangements.

Once established Lemon Bush Eucalyptus needs nearly zero care or maintenance when grown in the proper zones. Lemon Bush Eucalyptus is winter hardy in Zones 8-10. Mild freezes will kill off the leafs/stems of the bush, but the plant should survive easily as long as it's not a hard, long-term freeze. For colder climates, growing in containers and bringing indoors or a greenhouse will help protect your Lemon Bush plants


Growing to Maturity

How to Handle Freeze Damage

Should your Lemon Bush Eucalyptus suffer some freeze damage to the plant that doesn't kill the plant entirely, wait until you're past any risk of freeze, then cut the bush branches down to about 6" above the ground. Your eucalyptus plant should regrow readily as temperatures warm.


Harvesting Lemon Bush Eucalyptus Stems for Arrangements

Cut stems off the plant to the length you need for your arrangements or bouquets. Strip the lower leaves off and place in water until ready to work with. Stems of Lemon Bush Eucalyptus are not fussy.

They do have a very strong smell, different from other eucalyptus plants. Some people enjoy the scent, others find it reminiscent of strong cleaning products.

So beware if you'd looking for a non-fragrant filler for your bouquets, Lemon Bush Eucalyptus is not for you.
